At what age we should stop driving?

Driving is an activity that requires a certain degree of psychophysical abilities, over time these abilities diminish. Despite the fact that psychotechnical tests can be carried out that can help us respond, stopping driving is usually a subjective decision.

The difficulty in making this decision depends on the feeling we have about our own abilities.

Assuming limitations is a first step to stop driving.

The sight, the hearing and the musculoskeletal system are three of the main systems that help us to drive safely.

With age, sight deteriorates, the ear stops perceiving certain frequencies, and reflexes also decrease. We lose field of vision, glare bothers us more and we don't have the same night vision.

To know at all times what capacity we have, it is important to undergo periodic medical check-ups.

With age, it is normal to have many years of driving experience, not be in a rush to get to a destination and also respect safety regulations. Moderate driving is good for safety. But finding the time to stop driving is a personal and subjective decision. But it is an exercise of responsibility towards the whole of society, because despite the fact that there is no law that prohibits driving past an age, our body and our mind will tell us when we should stop doing it
