Airbag Car How do they work?

The car airbag is that element of passive safety but thanks to which we know that our chances of get away with a collision multiply. The combination of the seat belt securely fastened and the airbag is crucial to saving lives today more than ever before in the history of road safety.

The airbag is an airbag, another meaning which gives us a clue to its use, which should always be in addition to the seat belt. Its function is to contain the human body in a collision, reducing the chances of injury even with the seat belt as well.
The combination of seat belt and airbag saves many more lives than belt use alone. If there were to use a seat belt when the airbag deployed we would be in a position far from the ideal, and the deployment of the bag could cause us injury. Why both security systems are to be used together.

Airbag four main benefits:

- First, to absorb some of the kinetic energy of the body, gently slowing the movement of passengers.
- Second, to avoid an impact against the car interior components (steering wheel, dashboard or windshield).
- Third, to reduce the risk of injury by glass fragments from the windshield, mainly in the face and eyes.
- Fourth, to reduce head movement and thus, the risk of whiplash injuries.

A good number of sensors continuously collect data acceleration (positive and negative) and when the conditions and readings indicate that suffered a collision, the security system will be deployed. This can vary greatly depending on the brand and the car, and might only trigger an airbag when a collision is severe.

They can also be taken into account variables specific to the driver or occupant, as weight or size, to protect children in case of collision
